No Excuses CrossFit

Mission Statement:
"Our mission is to establish trust and provide inspiration and education through the strongest of health practices while developing the athlete within; to better lives, one person at a time."

My vision of owning my own gym began while I was still in high school.  After years of wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and weight training, I developed a huge interest in optimizing human performance through proper training, sleep, nutrition, and the development of strong mental capacities.  I wanted my gym to be a place where I could help the people around me by sharing the knowledge I had gained.

Gym_sm_pic.jpg I temporarily left my pursuit of a college degree at the University of Georgia to take on the life of an author and motivational speaker - but I actually started missing the education quite a bit!  To fill the void I submerged himself in books, podcasts, periodicals, abstracts and online publications from some of the top health and performance coaches in the world.  It became a bit of an obsession to further my knowledge in performance and quality of life; continually striving to find new ways to make myself and those around me better than they were the day before.

When I discovered what CrossFit was capable of doing for me, I knew it could make a significant impact on anyone.  Most of our members who train at No Excuses CrossFit are not elite athletes - or at least very few of them started out that way!  For the most part, the clientele at No Excuses could be described as generalists.  Generalists who invariably increase their fitness and work capacity across broad time and modal domains - the montra of CrossFit as defined by founder, Coach Greg Glassman.

The difference between No Excuses CrossFit and a typical gym begins and ends with personal engagement.  Members can expect to get out of it exactly the effort they put into it because our goal is to measure fitness across the lifespan - focusing on developing athleticism in individuals for years, not sessions.  The facility is run more like a martial arts school than a gym, and the members are more akin to students engaged in learning an art than they are detached clients of "Globo Gym" personal trainers.  The instruction is lead by my head trainer, Ben Davis, myself and my four coaches Laura, John, Jerome, and Patrick.  No Excuses focuses on teaching things like Olympic Weightlifting and Gymnastics; things people can only become proficient within the short term and must continue to focus their goals for long term mastery.

There is a small legion of people at No Excuses who have had their lives changed from the moment they stepped foot through the door.  It is impossible not to be inspired when you see how radical the metamorphosis has been for some of our family.  It is evident to see they have embraced the attitude that No Excuses is quite a bit more than a gym for them; it's become a way of life - and it's changed theirs forever!
